WA Grant Excellence Service (WAGES): NHMRC Ideas Grants Intensive Workshop Series

WAGES NHMRC Ideas Grants Intensive Workshop Series are now open.

This workshop series, delivered in partnership with Mind Your Way, has been developed specifically for WA researchers who are preparing a competitive NHMRC Ideas Grant application and are committed to actively developing their proposal over a seven-month period.

The series focuses on strengthening the non-research proposal sections – Innovation and Creativity, Significance, and Capability – which collectively account for 65% of the total assessment score in NHMRC Ideas Grants.

This workshop series consists of six online workshops delivered over seven months. Participants will develop and refine key sections of their NHMRC Ideas Grant application through a combination of:

  • Expert guidance and practical strategies
  • Worked examples of successful approaches
  • Draft development between sessions
  • Peer discussion and feedback
  • Facilitated review of select examples from participants

**NOTE: Applicants should only apply if they can commit to the full program.**

Participants will be expected to:

  • Attend all six online workshops
  • Develop draft sections between workshops
  • Submit draft material for facilitated discussion and feedback opportunities
  • Engage in peer-review activities during workshops
  • Be actively preparing an NHMRC Ideas Grant application for a forthcoming funding round

By submitting an EOI, applicants acknowledge that attendance at all six workshops is mandatory and that fees may apply where a place is accepted but the participant fails to attend the program.

WAGES workshops are subsidised by the WA Future Health Research and Innovation Fund and therefore free for attendees. Due to capacity limits a selection process will be used if the number of applicants exceeds the number of places.

Expressions of interest will remain open until COB Friday 2 October 2026.

Selected participants will be notified by Friday 9 October 2026.
