Meeting and supporting innovators like Perth Biodesign alum Dr Nikhilesh Bappoo is one of the best parts of our job here at the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub. We were thrilled to see Nik receive national recognition last week in the 2025 Prime Minister’s Prize for New Innovators – one of Australia’s highest honours in science and technology.
Nik is a co-founder of two WA companies – VeinTech and Lubdub Technologies. At VeinTech, Nik and his co-founders have developed ultrasound technology to help find veins more accurately for cannulation, and at Lubdub, Nik and his co-founders have designed a ‘heart in a box’ to combine data from critical heart function tests to provide heart health monitoring without the need for travel or specialist visits.
WALSIH is proud to have supported Nik’s entrepreneurial journey, from VeinTech’s creation through the Perth Biodesign program, providing funding for pivotal manufacturing activities, and enabling expansion into the US through the Perth Biodesign-New England Medical Innovation Center BioBridge. More about the VeinTech story is detailed in our recent case study.
It is a testament to Nik’s commitment to giving back to the sector that he jumped on a plane back to Perth after the awards ceremony to give a case study address at our Spotlight on the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub event last week. Read more here.
Congratulations Nik on this award and thank you for your ongoing work to deliver better health outcomes for patients.
