For the August WA Spotlight event, AUScelerate’s Dr Tracey Wilkinson had a fascinating fireside chat with Stephen Ezell from the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation who shared insights from the Foundation’s work into global life sciences innovation policy and a deep dive into the policy levers that created the foundations of success in the US.
While the USA has been the global biotech leader for the past three decades, that wasn’t always the case. This success was built off deliberate strategic policy decisions which Australia can learn from.
Discussion examined the impact of changing policies such as tariffs and industrial incentives, the growing emphasis on supporting local innovation and advanced manufacturing, and the rapid emergence of China as a leading global force in biotechnology innovation.
We’d like to thank the US Consulate Perth for their support in bringing Stephen to Perth as part of his Australian roadshow and partnering with the WA Life Sciences Innovation Hub on this event.
